Brief
Posters generally, have an image and one main line of text, most often the title, followed by additional essential information.
Look around locally and identify a coming event – it could be a jumble sale, local gig, concert or play, an exhibition or sporting fixture – and design two posters to promote it. Make the first poster full of details and descriptions about the event, when and where it’s taking place, what’s going on, how long it lasts, how much it costs and what to expect. Include all the details that you think your audience might need.
For the second poster apply Occam’s Raxor to pare back the information to a bare minimum – be extreme: how little information can you get away with and how few words can you see? Challenge yourself to be as simple as possible, but don’t forget the essentials or the poster won’t do the job it is intended for.
Community Event
I looked around for events and there are loads of the general community events as always and I decided to go with the local schools fun day, it is a school that my little girl might be going to and as a passionate events planner it will definitely be something I will be involved in so this exercise will benefit me at a later stage! Below you will see the leaflet they gave out in the village (it was raining so it has water drops all over it)

The Poster
Different Fun Day Posters
I had a look at fun day posters from different areas and I found a few, designing a fun day poster is challenging because people want to as much information as possible so they can see if it is a fun day they will attend so I am exited to challenge myself to simplify a fun day poster and get feedback from parents to see which one they prefer and why.
Poster Design Process
Too Much Information Poster Design
I have kept the original wording from the leaflet and applied it to the poster design. When I first looked at the leaflet I thought it had way too much information on it but as I was working with it I saw that its going to be much more challenging to simplify it then I originally thought.

Less Information Poster
Now to apply Occam’s Razor and peel away some information that the poster can do without… I thought all the information on my previous poster had all the information it needed so removing information was quite the challenge, but I changed the wording and the layout doing this helped with peeling some information away.

Feedback
I showed the two posters to friends and family.
Everyone agreed that the first poster was too overwhelming and busy, when I showed them the second poster it was agreed that it looked much better but people like to know what is going on at the fun day other wise it would not be as effective as what a fun day poster should be.
After evaluating what everyone had to say I went back and worked through the information, I added in the activities along the bottom and put back where they can purchase wristbands as well as what the wristbands are for.
When I showed everyone the final product they agreed that it is much better and more attractive.
